If you haven’t been following Houston news, lately there has been quite a contentious fight over Prop B. A measure that would increase Houston firefighters’ pay. As it is, firefighters make 30% less than their Houston Police Department (HPD) colleagues.
On September 21, 2018, the Protect Houston PAC, a PAC funneling money against Prop B, received $35,000 from the Houston Police Officers’ Union.
On September 23, 2018, Tomaro Bell appeared on Fox 26 Houston’s “What’s Your Point?” to adamantly debate against Prop B.
The next day, September 24, 2018, campaign finance reports from Protect Houston PAC reflect that Bell was paid $10,000 as a “consulting expense.”
There are reports of Bell going to multiple district town halls to voice opposition.
It’s curious to note that in the campaign finance reports listed, the only two contributors were Mayor Turner and the Houston Police Union. Mayor Turner paid over $25,000 in radio advertisements against Prop B.
The only political expenditures listed is the $10,000 for Tomaro Bell as seen above.
Also EVEN MORE CURIOUS TO NOTE, the last time Protect Houston PAC was used was in 2008. Back then it was used to oppose a measure that would demand all Houstonians show proof of citizenship on demand. Why wait 10 years to “protect Houston”? Also, why are we protecting Houston from firefighters? They literally fight fire.
Seriously guys, it’s all in the campaign finance reports: https://cohweb.houstontx.gov/CampaignFinanceWeb/CFRwebsiteSimpleSearchResult.aspx
